How To : Unclog a sink

Have a clogged sink and Drano isn't cutting it for you? Follow these simple steps to take apart your drain trap and clean it out before you spent hundreds calling over that pricey plumber on the inevitable Sunday morning when it happens.

Depending on your sink, you shouldn't need any tools other than your hands, and a bucket(to catch that nasty water)

Depending how old or new your sink is, this is the setup of basically everyone's sink ever. As you can see where it sags down is the trap, which should catch all the gunk/hair/rings/children's toys that go down the drain.

Step 1 : Place your bucket directly underneath the trap.

Step 2 : Remove the nut on the lower end of the trap, keep in mind water will be coming out of here so don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.

Step 3 : Remove the higher nut, and slowly turn the trap on it's side to drain it into the bucket.

Step 4 : Take a look in the trap and see what you find, push it out with a screwdriver or other long tool if needed to clear the trap. Take the trap to another sink or tub and flush it out with water.

Step 5 : Put the sink back together in the reverse order, making sure it's tight.

Step 6 : Turn on the water(with the bucket still under the trap) to make sure it doesn't leak, and see if it drains properly.

Bam! Done! It's as easy as that.
